Watch M.I.A.’s Politically Charged New ‘Borders’ Video

M.I.A.’s been steadily releasing singles this year, like “Matahdatah Scroll 01 Broader Than a Border,” “Platforms,” and “Can See Can Do.” Her output also includes last week’s politically charged “Borders,” for which the acid-tongued artist has now released an equally as powerful music video.

As she stands atop a stark backdrop with (presumably) refugees running in a line and trying to clamber over tall barbed fences, M.I.A. rolls through impassioned, purposefully simplistic lyrics: “Politics / What’s up with that? / Police shots / What’s up with that? / Identities / What’s up with that? / Your privilege / What’s up with that? / Broke people / What’s up with that? / Boat people / What’s up with that?” Watch “Borders below.
