Melanie Martinez released her lyrically innovative new album Cry Baby earlier this year, and last night, she turned up in full regalia on Conan to perform one of that LP’s strongest singles, “Soap.” It’s not easy to make a heavy electronic drop out of popping bubble sounds, but Martinez manages to make it seem ominously whimsical as her voice pulses over the tinkling melody.
