The Weeknd Debuts Sulky, Silky New Single on a Tiny Island

One of the Weeknd’s more ecstatic releases to date is currently all over the radio, but we’re used to hearing material that’s a little more moody from the R&B auteur. Fortunately at a London-area show last night he was able to waylay fears that his forthcoming LP Beauty Behind the Madness would abandon that lane entirely. As The Guardian points out, Abel Tesfaye debuted a new single with the winking title “Mood Music 2,” and it seems to be in the vein of his beloved early material and with a “love as addiction” metaphor to boot. Oh, and he was performing on the tiny Osea Island off the U.K. coast, a location that’s almost too perfect for a Tesfaye’s lavish tunes. Watch fan-shot footage of the performance below via Stereogum.
