Palehound Envies ‘Healthier Folk’ in Pained New Song

“I only feel half right around healthier folk,” Palehound — aka 21-year-old Ellen Kempner — complains in her new single, a trudging, mid-tempo attempt at figuring out what it takes to be Like Everybody Else. But Everybody Else can’t write like the poetically articulate Boston indie-pop singer, whose open-heart-surgery phrases speak to her emotional vulnerability (“Oh why do they tease me? / They just dangle me over promised piles”), which, when funneled through “Healthier Folk,” is outlined via physical detriments. Somebody get this girl to a doctor, stat.

Listen to “Healthier Folk” here, find her upcoming tour dates below, and look out for Palehound’s full-length debut, Dry Food, when it drops on August 14 via Exploding in Sound.
