Not even two months after his band the Social Experiment unleashed their rich, sprawling debut album Surf, it seems greedy to already be on the lookout for new music from Chance the Rapper. But if the rapper’s to be believed, new music may be coming our way from his corner before we know it, with a new collaborator — everyone’s (except James Harden and Kevin Durant’s) favorite internet-conquering hip-hop neo-dadaist, Lil B.
Is it for real? Is “an album” just figurative? Is Chance just trying to drum up some Wilco-style hype for his headlining set at the Pitchfork Music Festival on Sunday night? Time will tell, but given the directness of Chance’s declarative statement, it’s hard not to get the tiniest bit excited about the prospect, regardless.
