Smashing Pumpkins Smush Every Song From ‘Gish’ Into a Three-Minute Medley

Smashing Pumpkins are in the midst of an acoustic tour that they’re calling In Plainsong, and things have occasionally gotten a little sillier than you might expect. Earlier this week, Billy Corgan and his current cast of backing musicians stopped through Munhall, Pennsylvania and offered up some of the abrasive songs from Gish, which you might have otherwise thought would be hard to translate into an acoustic setting.

Turns out Billy may have agreed, turning that segment of the show into a speed drill and smushing every song from the album into a three-minute instrumental medley. As Consequence of Sound points out, Corgan then joked that the rest of the show should proceed in a similar manner, before launching into the similarly distorted “Geek USA” from Siamese Dream, one of SPIN’s 300 Best Albums of the Past 30 Years. Watch the performance here and then catch Corgan and co. on the remaining dates of this acoustic tour, before they head out as a full band with Marilyn Manson.
