Angel Deradoorian Announces Debut LP, ‘The Expanding Flower Planet’

Angel Deradoorian, the ethereally voiced singer perhaps best-known as a former member of the Dirty Projectors — though she’s also part of Avey Tare’s Slasher Flicks and appeared on Flying Lotus‘ glittering (and fittingly named) “Siren Song” — has announced her solo debut under her last name as a moniker, The Expanding Flower Planet. Check out the beguiling first listen, “A Beautiful Woman,” below.

According to a press release, the title came from a “Chinese-embroidered” tapestry of a flower mandala. “Deradoorian synthesizes faint hints of Alice Coltrane and Can, Terry Riley and Dorothy Ashby. A new world springs from ancient traditions — with East Indian, Middle Eastern, traditional Japanese music and Native American rhythms aligned with Deradoorian’s singular orbit. The songs glide through an odyssey of self-exploration — gliding and warping, burning and floating gracefully, permanently transcending.”

The Expanding Flower Planet is available for pre-order on iTunes and Anticon.
