Tame Impala Animate New Video Like It’s 1998 All Over Again

It seems like more and more artists are turning to animated videos in 2015 — think Todd Terje’s “Alfonso Muskedunder,” Run the Jewels’ “Early,” or Against Me!’s “Two Coffins” — and now Tame Impala have jumped on the trend with their new “‘Cause I’m a Man” treatment. It traces the relationship between a couple of literal blockheads as they fall in — and somewhat out, it seems — of love. There’s also a surprisingly bleak scene in which one of the 3D figures stands atop a rooftop, making us think of that stellar Courtney Barnett lyric from her new track “Elevator Operator”: “Don’t jump little boy / Don’t jump off that roof / You’ve got your whole life ahead of you / You’re still in your youth.”

Watch “‘Cause I’m a Man” below, and look for Tame Impala’s Currents on July 18.
