Much like Prince did last week, Solange has penned a moving new song in tribute to Baltimore (and Ferguson), following the unrest after Freddie Gray‘s death in police custody. Solange debuted the song while at an event for HBO’s upcoming Bessie Smith biopic, Bessie. “We’re gonna attempt to play a song for the first time that may or may not be on the record, but it probably will be,” she told the crowd, according to Rap-up. “I wrote this one for Ferguson, for Baltimore, and it’s called ‘Rise.” Watch a recording of the impassioned performance above.
