Metric have returned with a brand-new single, “The Shade,” which arrives after last year’s demo, “The Fatal Gift,” and three years after 2012’s Synthetica LP. Led by frontwoman Emily Haines’ signature cry, the synth-stacked number is slick, polished, and buttressed by echoing electronic percussion, which somehow makes it sound comfortingly retro and intriguingly futuristic all at once. Though no exact date has been revealed, the band promises via their YouTube page that a new album is forthcoming. Listen above.
