Hear Rihanna’s Sultry New Weed-Centric ‘R8’ Interlude, ‘James Joint’

So far from Rihanna in 2015, we’ve gotten the acoustic, McCartney-asissted “Four Five Seconds,” the trap-happy “Bitch Better Have My Money,” the swirlingly patriotic “American Oxygen,” and a snippet of the Florence + the Machine sampling “A Night” — plus some tracks from her animated movie Home, which, all in all, isn’t bad for four months’ work from the notoriously prolific pop star. Now a day after 4-20, Rihanna’s released “James Joint,” a sparked-up interlude she’s written for her upcoming eighth studio album

“I’d rather be / Smoking weed / Whenever we breathe / Every time you kiss me,” Ri drawls as she lets out puff after puff of smoky vocals. It’s a gorgeous, Weeknd-descended interlude that makes the direction of R8 curious and curiouser. Take a listen here and stay tuned for Rihanna’s eighth album, surely on its way.
