Kendrick Lamar Almost Called His New Album ‘Tu Pimp a Caterpillar’

Still basking in the glory of Kendrick Lamar’s expansive new album, To Pimp a Butterfly? Now the rapper’s finally talking about the project, telling MTV News that he’d originally intended to call it Tu Pimp a Caterpillar, the initials of which would’ve (sort of) spelled Tupac. Here’s Kendrick:

Me changing it to butterfly, I just wanted to show the brightness of life. And the word pimp has so much aggression. For me, it represents using my celebrity for good. Another reason is not being pimped by the industry — through my celebrity.”
