Modest Mouse and Natasha Lyonne Do Weird Stuff in ‘Lampshades on Fire’ Video

Modest Mouse, Lampshades on Fire, Video

The music video for Modest Mouse’s nihilistic Strangers to Ourselves lead single, “Lampshades on Fire,” looks like the opening credits to True Detective, only set in the Pacific Northwest instead of rural Louisiana. The band, playing a bunch of hipsters in varying states of dishevelment, and Orange Is the New Black’s Natasha Lyonne do drugs, face-paint in the woods, brandish guns, and generally look like they don’t totally have their lives together. One guy decides to let a mousetrap snap shut on his tongue, because, why wouldn’t he? Watch the intriguing, arrestingly disjointed video above.
