According to reports, Canadian singer the Weeknd — born Abel Tesfaye — was arrested in Las Vegas on Saturday morning at 4 a.m. after police claimed he punched an officer “in the side of the head with a closed fist.” The Star claims that police were responding to a scuffle in the Cromwell Hotel in the early morning hours. When they pulled Tesfaye out of the mix to try and break up the situation, Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department spokesperson Laura Meltzer claimed that he responded by striking an officer.

Tesfaye was arrested and charged with “battery on a protected person” and has since been released on bail. Last month, the Weeknd released one of his two cuts from the upcoming 50 Shades of Grey soundtrack, “Earned It.” No word yet on a court date, but the R&B crooner tweeted that he was on his way out of town on January 10.
