See Metallica, Slayer, and More Metal Icons Get an 8-Bit Makeover

8-Bit, Metal, Music Video, Video Game

If you ever listened to some of your favorite heavy metal tracks and thought “dang, this is great, but I wish it was more like an old-school Nintento video game,” well, you’re in luck. Loudwire partnered with the Filthy Frackers to reenvision four of the biggest metal acts of all time — Metalica, Slayer, Megadeth, and Anthrax — as an 8-bit video game.

The resulting video, “The Big Four,” is pretty great. Snippets of some of the bands’ best songs are remade in chiptune style, including Slayer’s “Raining Blood” and Anthrax’s “Madhouse.” They’re set to 8-bit versions of scenes from the bands’ iconic videos. (NES-Dave Mustaine seems pretty hardcore.) The last segment is set to “Madhouse,” and features some classic video game characters as patients/inmates in the background. In what’s probably the nerdiest easter egg, Mario is wearing Kuribo’s Shoe instead of a normal straight-jacket. Watch the video above.
