The Decemberists Step Into the Studio For Their ‘Lake Song’ Lyric Video

The Decemberists, Lake Song, Lyric Video

The Decemberists’ new lyric video for “Lake Song,” the second track they’ve shared from their upcoming album, offers a relaxing and beautiful portrait of the darkly whimsical folk group at work. The crisp, black-and-white footage shows the Portland band recording in their studio, as introspective lyrics float over their faces and piano keys.

The song itself — which they first played at Boston Calling in May — is quite pretty, and sounds sonically closer to their earlier work than, say, 2011’s Americana-slanted The King is Dead, or even 2006’s Japanese folktale-referencing The Crane Wife. Their new record, What A Terrible World, What A Beautiful World, which includes the starry lead single “Make You Better,” drops on January 19.
