One Direction Make a Swooning Return to ‘Saturday Night Live’

One Direction Saturday Night Live Amy Adams

Just a month after shirking their boy-band roots on their latest studio LP Four, One Direction made their subdued return to Saturday Night Live. While Amy Adams hosted the episode, the British quintet offered up just a little few of the sugar rush rock hits that can be found on Four. With little more theatricality than a handful of all-black ensembles and 30 Rock’s Christmas lights as accompaniment for their soaring new material, the band ran through a couple of U2-indebted cuts from the record, “Ready to Run” and “Night Changes.” You can catch the former up above and the latter bellow, alongside the cold open of the show in which Taran Killam offers a pretty hilarious parody of Sam Smith’s performance style.
