Yesterday, it was announced that U2’s planned residency on the Tonight Show this week had been cancelled, due to Bono enduring a “cycling spill in Central Park,” knocking the frontman out of commission. These are the times when it helps a late show to have a house band that can cover just about anything and a host that loves doing impressions of singers with oversized personalities; hence, Fallon and the Roots performing U2’s Rattle and Hum classic “Desire,” complete with Fallon wearing Bono’s trademark cap and shades, and even doing a convincing job on the harmonica solo.
Watch above, and watch for Fallon and the Roots in residence all week — possibly as U2, possibly as themselves, possibly as the Quicksilver Messenger Service, why not — on the Tonight Show.
