North Carolina’s Hiss Golden Messenger brought their Southern-flecked classic roots rock to Letterman last night, and Dave liked the set so much that we assume he didn’t let them leave (“Nice going! I’ll tell ya, I liked everything about this!”). Playing “Southern Grammar” (which is decidedly unrelated to Nelly’s “Country Grammar”), frontman M.C. Taylor hit the stage with a coterie of chambray-shirted back-up vocalists for a rowdy Byrds-meets-Buffalo Springfield-meets-Chicago performance (because horns).
