Hear Ezra Koenig Sing an iLoveMakonnen Deep Cut

Ezra Koenig

If you have two hours to spare today, make sure you spend them listening to Vampire Weekend frontman Ezra Koenig on “Yak Radio”, featuring Blood Orange‘s Dev Hynes and Terrible Records‘ Ethan Silverman. Over the course of 120 minutes, Koenig delves into everything from his love for Rita Ora’s “I Will Never Let You Down” (he was “moved” by the guitar riff, and to be frank, who wasn’t) to his appreciation for Pat Benatar’s “We Belong,” which, according to Koenig, is “a little dub-step.”

What’s more, Koenig — who will from this day forward be known as the greatest radio guest you’ll ever find — didn’t stop there. In honor of his Carnegie Hall performance with Angélique Kidjo, which pays tribute to singer/South African activist Miriam Makeba, Koenig sang an a cappella preview of a Xhosa-language song. That’s one of the official languages of South Africa, for the unschooled. Oh, and it’s worth mentioning that he sang iLoveMakonnen’s “Tonight” alongside the chorus of Belinda Carlisle’s “Heaven is a Place on Earth.”

OK, that settles it: Ezra Koenig should have an open invitation to every radio show ever, music-related or not, because he’ll probably still have something bonkers to contribute. Hear the entire thing below.
