Elvis CostelloMarcus Mumford, My Morning Jacket’s Jim James, and more dropped by The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon last night to play their first-ever live performance as folk supergroup the New Basement Tapes. The all-star lineup was rounded out by Carolina Chocolate Drops’ Rhiannon Giddens, Dawes’ Taylor Goldsmith, and producer T-Bone Burnett, all of whom helped the aforementioned frontmen ease through the thoughtful “Lost on the River,” the titular track from the just-released compilation album, Lost on the River: The New Basement TapesAll of the songs featured on the record are based on lost Bob Dylan lyrics, written during the same period of time when the iconic bard was working on his classic 1975 LP, Basement Tapes.
