New Pornographers Bounce Through ‘Brill Bruisers’ on ‘Letterman’
Performance cements their return to the top of the power-pop game
The New Pornographers’ excellent sixth album, Brill Bruisers, takes its cues from the famous Brill Building sound of ’50s and ’60s pop, revs them up, adds plenty of electric crunch, and turns them into a fresh, modern sound. The Canadian supergroup proved that the material translates extremely well to the stage with a performance of the LP’s title track last night on Letterman, with Carl Newman and Neko Case leading the band through the tune’s exultant six-part harmony. The album is out now via Matador and the New Porns will be on tour in the U.S. through November.
