Over the course of his career with the Books, Nick Zammuto wove found sound samples into abstract compositions that were as infectious as they were jittery. As he moves into work under his own last name he’s carried those latter two adjectives along with him while embracing song structures that are a little easier to stomach. New single “Io” offers an ode to a volcano-covered moon that orbits Jupiter in the form of a Devo-cum-krautrock open-highway jam, emphasizing the sense of “momentum” that Zammuto described when he first told us about his new album Anchor last year.
