EDM Heads to the Big Screen With Zac Efron and Emily Ratajkowski Drama
'We Are Your Friends' looks to cash in on genre's popularity
Considering EDM’s massive popularity and how much money it involves, it was only a matter of time before someone in Hollywood would attempt to cash in by making a movie about it. And that time is now, as Deadline reports that Zac Efron and Emily Ratajkowski will star in We Are Your Friends, a drama set in the world of dance music.
Efron will star as a young Los Angeles DJ named Cole who’s working on a surefire hit song while looking for his big break. Ratajkowski, who you might remember from the then-with-Paula Robin Thicke’s “Blurred Lines” video, will play Sophie, the girlfriend of Cole’s older mentor. “With Cole’s forbidden relationship intensifying and his friendships unraveling, he must choose between love, loyalty, and the future he knows he’s destined for,” Deadline says, adding that it has a very similar vibe to Saturday Night Fever.
The movie is set to begin filming August 18 in the San Fernando Valley, while the release date is unknown. Meanwhile, Efron’s got his work cut out for him if he wants to portray the realities of being a DJ. Our advice is that he bones up on the culture by studying this video of David Guetta:
