Watch Fucked Up’s Damian Abraham Investigate Canada’s Weed Industry
Twenty-minute clip comes from new documentary on medical marijuana
Fucked Up frontman Damian Abraham has teamed up with Vice to investigate Canada’s medical marijuana industry for a documentary titled Canadian Cannabis. The film premieres next week, but you can watch the first 20 minutes now. As seen above, the extended preview finds Abraham traveling across Canada wearing various items of Mishka apparel (and a sick Puff the Magic Dragon sweatshirt) to chat with patients, vibe with growers, and explore some of the country’s biggest medical marijuana factories. This is the second video Abraham has appeared in this summer, after a bunch of interviews his band released in conjunction with their latest album, Glass Boys.
As the punk singer points out at the beginning of the video, Canada’s marijuana industry has had a tumultuous 2014 so far: In April, the government banned people from cultivating plants themselves and forced them to buy from government-licensed, corporate operations, and a few months ago, existing patients won back their right to grow at home. According to Olympic snowboarder Ross Rebagliati, Abraham is examining an issue that’s “on the verge of a massive revolution.” It’s certainly revolutionized Abraham’s life—he says in the clip that he started using medical marijuana to treat anxiety and depression, and lost 120 pounds as a side effect. It’s an unlikely side effect, but a blessing nonetheless.
