Rihanna Rides for A$AP Rocky in Documentary on Harlem MC

A$AP Rocky Documentary Behind-the-Scenes

A$AP Rocky’s career saw him quickly rocket into stardom, and Noisey has invited us to witness that rise via a five part documentary titled SVDDXNLY. Director David Laven combines home videos, conversations with friends and family, and back stage footage to reveal the life and times of the young stand-out born Rakim Mayers as he crafts his place in rap. The series will feature unreleased music from Rocky’s upcoming instrumental album.

The first installment highlights footage from the only three shows Rocky played before finding himself on the Drake tour, elucidating just how quickly his come-up took place, and just how much hype surrounded his A$AP Mob from the moment they set foot to stage. The 24 year-old MC known for his love of fashion puts his flashy persona into perspective, however, with the story of his beginnings. Above, he recalls how his brother would pound a beat into the table and encourage 8-year-old Rocky to freestyle. Pretty Flacko asserts that creativity is the superior reason behind all that he does:

“I know I’m here for a purpose and that purpose is to create art. If I get recognition for it, that’s a blessing, that’s a plus.”

Recognition has clearly come his way, with Rihanna already appearing in the first episode and famous folks like Drake, Danny Brown, Kathy Griffin, Snoop Dogg, Macklemore, and Jeremy Scott set to show up in the future installments. And of course, he and Wiz Khalifa will always be best buds.
