The fifth days of “Weird Al” Yankovic’s #8Songs8Days music video-palooz, brings us a halftime show of sorts with “Sports Song” — a parody on sports themselves rather than pop song we all know and love (to hate). In the Funny or Die clip above, our host leads a marching band across the field, mocking fight songs everywhere by over-explaining in explicit generic detail just how “vastly inferior” your sports team is. Which sport, you ask? That doesn’t matter. Yankovic’s guys are gonna take home the [penant/cup/ring] regardless.
Over the past four days, Al’s Mandatory Fun promotional campaign has brought us video parodies of Pharrell’s “Happy” (“Tacky”), Robin Thicke’s “Blurred Lines” (“Word Crimes”), Lorde’s “Royals (“Foil”), and yesterday’s “Handy” take on Iggy Azalea’s “Fancy”. And he was also on Conan last night, looking good with a live “Tacky” performance. It really does feel like everyone is rooting for Team Al.
