Kim Deal and Morgan Nadler Scare Up Jack Nicholson for ‘Range on Castle’ Video

Kim Deal Morgan Nagler 'Range on Castle' Video 'The Terror' Jack Nicholson

Back in March, Kim Deal told SPIN about the bizarre origins of her single with Morgan Nagler, “Range on Castle,” saying, “I found myself on a date, going to a gun range on Castle Road, here in Huber Heights, Ohio.” Now the duo has come up with a suitably strange video for the ambing track by using clips from Roger Corman’s 1963 horror film The Terror, starring Boris Karloff and a very young Jack Nicholson.

Thanks to the fact that the movie is in the public domain, Nagler’s brother chopped up the footage to focus on Nicholson, playing a young French soldier, and a ghostly baroness. The result is a trippy, truncated romance that doesn’t have the happiest of endings. It’s both eerie and funny watching Nicholson’s all-business acting set against Deal and Nagler’s playful falsetto vocals. Check it out above, courtesy of NPR.

Outside of this single, Deal has other irons in the fire with the Breeders. The band, which she fronts alongside twin sister Kelley, has been working on its first new songs since 2009’s Fate to Fatal EP, and will debut them with a tour that kicks off September 2 in St. Louis and ends September 18 at the Hollywood Bowl with a concert feature Neutral Milk Hotel and Carrie Bradley.
