Interpol’s ‘All the Rage Back Home’ Video Is a Surfer’s Wet Dream

Interpol All The Rage Back Home Video El Pintor

Last month we heard Interpol would be delivering their new album El Pintor in September, and even got a taste from a professional-amateur live video for the song “Anywhere” soon after. Now the New York band has released the first official video off of its first album in four years with “All the Rage Back Home.” The new track opens with plaintive guitar and Paul Banks’ inimitable deep coo, but then bursts forth with unexpected upbeat aplomb. Frilly guitar-work compliments the driving drums, while we hear words about falling, love, swirly heads, and shaking frames. The video was co-directed by frontman Paul Banks with Sophia Peer, who’s done work with the National, Paramore, Yeasayer, and Banks’ solo project previously. In it dimly lit footage of the band is contrasted against shots of a surfer in action. It’s pretty swell.

SPIN caught Interpol at Governor’s Ball last month. They’ll be playing Lollapalooza, FYF, Austin City Limits and a few more select dates over the months to come, leading up to El Pintor‘s September 9 release (via Matador).
