Wild Beasts Float Through Hallucinatory World in ‘Mecca’ Video

wild beasts, present tense, mecca, video

Wild Beasts sure have a flair for the dramatic. Their “Wanderlust” video took a saddeningly beautiful look at the parallel lives of four characters, while the visuals for “A Simple Beautiful Truth” featured the English foursome doing an absurdist dance routine on a Welsh mountain. Their new short for “Mecca” takes them in an even trippier direction, blending footage of the lads with psychedelic animation. Directed by Kate Moross, the colorful video is the perfect complement for the airy track, especially as co-frontman Hayden Thorpe mournfully sings, “Where the body goes the mind will follow soon after” in the chorus. It’s yet another example of the unique charms of Wild Beasts’ latest LP, Present Tense, one of SPIN’s picks for the Best Overlooked Albums of 2014 So Far.
