Sinkane (a.k.a. Ahmed Gallab) splashed down in 2012 with Mars, his first collection of soupy dance-pop for DFA, and now he’s returned with news of a full-length called Mean Love and a neon-splattered single dubbed “Hold Tight.” Distant organs and a thumping bassline fill out a spacey drum part before Gallab comes in with his androgyne vocalizations. The track steers clear of the climaxes and convolutions he traded in while playing in bands like Yeasayer, of Montreal, and Born Ruffians, settling instead in a sort of aural limbo, somewhere between driving synth-pop and bedroom R&B.
