Stephen Malkmus, Jeff Goldblum Star in Ray & Remora’s ‘Gold Soundz’ Video

Los Angeles duo Ray & Remora’s have released a joyfully star-studded video for their Pavement cover, “Gold Soundz.” Kim Gordon, Stephen Malkmus himself, Weezer’s Scott Shriner, Inara George, Beastie Boys collaborator Money Mark, and, naturally, actor Jeff Goldblum, all make an appearance. In the clip, the artists otherwise known as Dan Crane and Amanda Walker go door-to-door trying to get people to listen to their music. They aren’t so successful.

Crane said he got the idea for the video from watching a bunch of Mormons all suited-up for neighborhood missions, Entertainment Weekly reports. “It reminded me, in a way, of what it’s like to be in a band: knocking on doors and trying to ‘sell’ your sound to people, with most of those doors getting slammed in your face.”

Ray & Remora’s “Gold Soundz” transforms Pavement’s punk-folk classic into a catchy indie-pop track fit perfect for a spot on a beloved summer picnic playlist. Crane told Purevolume they picked the track because “it’s both a weirdly nostalgic/melancholic song blended with a kind of joyous celebration.” The song is part of R&R’s six-song collection of indie covers from the year 1994, appropriately titled 1994.

You can listen to the album, which includes covers of Superchunk, Weezer, Guided by Voices, Sebadoh, and Dinosaur Jr., here
