Jack White Tells ‘Conan’ He Doesn’t Mind Hearing ‘Seven Nation Army’ Everywhere

Jack White and Jimmy Fallon have plenty of on-air history, but White and Conan O’Brien are old friends. Last night on Conan, the late-night host recalled sitting next to the White Stripe when Elephant‘s unmistakable “Seven Nation Army” came on at a Los Angeles Dodgers game. O’Brien compared it to watching baseball with the guy who wrote the “Charge” fanfare.

The Third Man Records boss, whose new album Lazaretto came out this week, isn’t mad. “As a songwriter, that’s the greatest thing that could ever happen,” he said of the song’s jock-jam ubiquity. “It becomes folk music, because people take it over. I don’t know of many songs where they’re not saying words, they’re chanting melody.”

Watch that portion of White’s Conan interview above. Below, see them talk about why White bans cell phones from his shows (“Nobody was in the moment, everybody was documenting the moment”) and scroll down for performances of Lazaretto‘s “Temporary Ground” and “Alone in My Home.” White was on Fallon’s Tonight Show earlier this week, he was one of the best things we saw at Governors Ball 2014, and you can catch him on tour.
