Hear Blood Orange’s Saxy, Synth-y ‘April’s Bathroom Bummer’

Devonté Hynes Blood Orange 'Palo Alto' Soundtrack 'April's Bathroom Bummer'

As we previously reported, Blood Orange’s Devonté Hynes wrote his first movie score for the new flick Palo Alto, which is based on James Franco’s book of the same name. That album is out now digitally, and to promote the release, he shared a new track “April’s Bathroom Bummer,” a tense number that most certainly won’t cheer anyone up. Hynes croons in his reverb-soaked falsetto over a rapid synth line and piercing hi-hat hits, with weary-sounding saxophones adding to the melancholy vibe. While we haven’t seen the movie yet, we can only assume this track appears in a pretty bad scene for the character of April, played by Emma Roberts. Vinyl and CD versions of the Palo Alto score are due out August 5 from Domino, while the soundtrack  featuring Blood Orange, Mac Demarco, Robert Schwartzman, and Jason Schwartzman’s Cocunut Records — is out now on iTunes and gets a physical release June 3.
