Hear AlunaGeorge’s Subtle, Shimmering Remix of Coldplay’s ‘Magic’

Shadowy duo will support the London quartet at two hometown shows

Coldplay’s recently released Ghost Stories found the soaring quartet edging ever closer toward dusky electronic experimentation, and today, a remix of “Magic” by London duo AlunaGeorge functions as a logical extension of the ideas they explored on that record.

Though Aluna Francis and George Reid favor a boisterous sort of electro-pop on their own material, their careful rework of “Magic” stays in the realm of the subdued original, augmenting Chris Martin’s glassy-eyed vocal take with glittery synth lines and the duo’s familiar bassy thrum. Between those instrumental additions and Francis’ stuttering background vocal, the duo is able to turn the post-Kid A power ballad into delirious, yet danceable, body music.

This remix comes in advance of two dates that AlunaGeorge will play with Coldplay this week on July 1 and 2 at London’s Royal Albert Hall.
