Watch St. Vincent’s Bewitching ‘SNL’ Performance

St Vincent Andy Samberg Jay Z Solange Video

As announced last month, the last episode of Saturday Night Live‘s 39th season featured the return of host Andy Samberg and a pair of typically bewitching, idiosyncratic performances from St. Vincent.

Still on tour in support of her SPIN Essential February LP , Annie Clark and her band took to the SNL stage for renditions of a couple of the tense, twitchy tracks “Digital Witness” and “Birth In Reverse.” Each of those performances featured heaping helping of Clark’s distressed and virtuosic guitar work, as well as the disquieting choreography that she’s previously brought to late night TV.

But if a couple of otherworldly St. Vincent tracks weren’t enough, SNL also opened with a skit that attempts to explain the Jay Z and Solange quarrel, in which the duo (played by Jay Pharaoh and Sasheer Zamata) give another public statement, this time releasing a new version of the now infamous video.

Given that Samberg was back, there was also the occasion for a couple of pre-taped Lonely Island sketches, one featuring Pharrell and one that spoofs EDM culture. Watch St. Vincent play “Digital Witness” above and catch all of the rest of the highlights below.
