Dave Grohl Does a Shot, Shreds ‘Monkey Wrench’ on Top of the Bar

Dave Grohl, shot, Foo Fighters, 9:30 Club, video

Let us now raise our glass to Dave Grohl. On Monday night, Foo Fighters played a surprise, career-spanning show at Washington, D.C.’s 9:30 Club. Well, as you can see in the fan video above, at one point the Nirvana drummer stood on the bar while playing a guitar solo, pausing only to throw back a shot (a little after the one-minute mark).

According to Consequence of Sound, the shot was Jägermeister, and the song — hard to recognize because Grohl is seriously at end-of-“Free Bird” levels of wailing here — was “Monkey Wrench.” Check out another fan-shot video at the bottom of this post.

Foo Fighters have been recording their new album, which producer Butch Vig recently said was almost halfway done. Grohl has also been busy with, just, you know, getting inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, winning a Grammy with Paul McCartney, and burying the hatchet with Courtney Love.

Meanwhile, a fan campaign to bring the Foo Fighters to Richmond, Virginia, still has 24 days of fundraising left, Grohl drums on Kristeen Young’s new album The Knife Shift, and the Sound City director also recently looked back on his first time hearing Soundgarden’s “Black Hole Sun.” Oh, and one last thing before we quit…
