Wye Oak Dance Themselves Dirty in ‘The Tower’ Video
Two painters recreate 'Mary Poppins' for Baltimore duo's 'Shriek' track
With the release of Wye Oak’s Shriek a few weeks away, the Baltimore duo celebrrates its turn down synthesizer lane with a new video for lead single “The Tower.” In the Ben O’Brien-directed clip, two painters — who are unfortunately not played by WO’s Jenn Wasner and Andy Stack — dance down a street, getting progressively more covered in paint. They then take to a warehouse where they’re joined by a troupe, all the while busting out some Mary Poppins-like moves, not to mention some choreography that resembles the Soggy Bottom Boys’ from O Brother Where Art Thou? The dancers’ joy is juxtaposed with the song’s inherent sadness, but it’s still a fun clip all around. Shriek is due out April 29 via Merge.
