Parquet Courts’ Cat Stars in Literal Video for ‘Sunbathing Animal’
Frida the feline helps promote Brooklyn punks' new LP, also called 'Sunbathing Animal'
The minimalist video for Parquet Courts’ single “Sunbathing Animal” stays faithful to the title, which also happens to be the name of the Brooklyn punk quartet’s upcoming third LP. Andrew Clapper and frontman Andrew Savage direct the clip, which offers a four-minute, black-and-white window into the life of the band boss’ cat Frida, who soaks in some raysas a record player spins the song. In an interview with Noisey, Savage said Frida was the inspiration for “Sunbathing Animal,” and that this couch is her favorite spot for a nap. He also described the process by which the band was able to calmly film the cat in her natural habitat. “I guess we basically made the sofa area of my apartment into a cat paradise in order to get her to perform,” he said. “We had bird songs playing on the iPhone, the window was open for bird noises outside. We put some food on the couch and then finally some cat nip.”
The band’s album is due out June 3rd on Mom and Pop.
