Hear The Roots’ Soulful, Optimistic ‘Tomorrow’

The Roots Tomorrow New Track Stream

The Legendary Roots Crew kicked off the lead-up to And Then You Shoot Your Cousin, their 11th studio LP, earlier this month with the mournful “When The People Cheer.”  Now a more cheery track “Tomorrow” is out in the wild, though it looks like this one might’ve seeped out through unofficial channels. Don’t be surprised if the stream below doesn’t last forever.

In a February interview with XXL, Black Thought called the record more sonically “dense,”  and “Tomorrow” largely seems to follow through on that promise, relying on the textural interplay between chiming piano chords and distant echoes to underpin Raheem DeVaughn’s hopeful vocal turn.

There’s no Black Thought here and no conceptual drama, just a simple soul song that advocates living in the moment.
