The National Cancel Ukraine, Russia Dates Citing Politics

The National, Russia, Ukraine

Pussy Riot aren’t the only band staying out of Russia. Dour rock dudes the National announced on Facebook today they’re canceling tour dates planned for the Russian cities of Moscow and St. Petersburg, as well as the Ukranian capital of Kiev. Citing “the ongoing political crisis” between the two countries, the recent Saturday Night Live and Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon guests promised full refunds for ticket-holders and a TBA rain-check.

Here’s the band’s full message, via the social network:

“Due to the ongoing political crisis in the region, we are sad to report that we have decided to cancel our shows in Moscow, St. Petersburg and Kiev this summer. Ticket refunds are available at the point of purchase. We remain hopeful of coming to play for you in the future and we sincerely hope this current instability resolves in a positive, democratic and peaceful way. Take care of yourselves and we hope to see you soon.”

The Brooklyn-via-Cincinnati band have been touring behind last year’s Trouble Will Find Me. We profiled Matt Berninger and co. at the time, in a piece lovingly titled, “Not Your Dad’s Da-Rock.”
