Perfect Pussy Loudly Redecorate Bruce Springsteen’s ‘Candy’s Room’

Perfect Pussy Bruce Springsteen Cover

Perfect Pussy are still out touring relentlessly in support of their roiling March debut Say Yes To Love, but they found time to lay down a cacophonous rendition of Bruce Springsteen’s “Candy’s Room.”

Commissioned for Rookie‘s Theme Song series, the Syracuse, New York quintet’s version excises Springsteen’s bald emoting in favor of a sugary multi-tracked vocal take from Meredith Graves and a pulsating rhythm section. Shaun Sutkus’ synth and noise work, which you might recognize from Say Yes To Love’s expansive closer “VII,” returns to the foreground again here, before some mangled guitar parts blow the doors off.

It sounds pretty much nothing like the original, or anything that the Boss would put out ever, so you’d be forgiven for not recognizing Springsteen as an obvious touchstone for the band. Even Nardwuar didn’t appear pick up on the apparent connection in his interview with the band at SXSW and he seems to magically know this sort of thing. Stream the track below.
