Nas Commemorates ‘Illmatic’ Anniversary at Coachella With Lauryn Hill

Coachella Nas Lauryn Hill Illmatic Damian Marley Video

Jay Z was tied up performing with Pharrell and Puff Daddy was nowhere to be found, but the fact that Nas’ two first week guests didn’t reprise their roles for his Saturday set doesn’t appear to have hampered his second Coachella show in the slightest.

Given that yesterday was the 20th anniversary of his landmark Illmatic (and the fact that he appears to be in a celebratory mood), it would have been pretty safe to assume that Nas had something special planned for last night, but he shocked Coachella attendees with a front-to-back run-through of the record. The festivities didn’t stop there, however, as Nas was joined by Damian Marley for a rendition of their 2005 track “Welcome To Jamrock.” Lauryn Hill, who’s mostly laid low since her 2013 stint in prison for tax evasion, also came out for a pair of collaborations, the Fugees’ “Ready or Not” and Nas’ own “If I Ruled The World.” Nas’ set last week was one of our Saturday favorites, and it looks like this one may have been just as special.
