Lykke Li’s ‘No Rest for the Wicked’ Video Is a Tale of Doomed Romance

Lykke Li, 'I Never Learn,' "No Rest for the Wicked," video

If Lykke Li is serious about filling her upcoming album with smoldering “power ballads,” of course she needs a love-story music video. The first clip from I Never Learn, for the aching acoustic plea “Love Me Like I’m Not Made of Stone,” was essentially a video portrait. “No Rest for the Wicked” starts as a similarly spare plaint, centered around delicate piano then builds to a rumble of chorus as crushing as it is hopelessly crushed (free blurb: “Lykke Li puts the ‘power’ in ‘power ballad’!). But the accompanying visuals just showed wilting flowers. Now longtime collaborator Tarik Saleh has directed a more traditional video, and it’s the narrative treatment the song deserves, a fraught tale starring the singer as one half of a doomed romance. The clip is above, and I Never Learn is out May 6 in North America  and May 5 elsewhere via LL/Atlantic.
