There’s a set routine for Lily Allen’s performances at the London nightclub G-A-Y. In her own words, “each time I play GAY I do a cover in drag.” So last night’s appearance at the club, which saw Allen donning a black bikini for a lip-synced version of Beyoncé’s “Drunk In Love” should’ve been nothing new for the often-inflammatory pop star.
Some, however, judged Allen’s performance to be satirical rather than a genuine act of tribute, a claim that neither the above video (incidentally titled “Lily Allen Mocks Beyoncé” nor the other clip seems to support. Allen’s certainly not shy of being a provocateur, but a string of outraged tweets claim that wasn’t the case last night.
“Only one person can tell you what my intentions are, and that would be me,” Allen tweeted. “I wasn’t mocking Beyoncé, like I wasn’t dissing anyone on Sheezus, this is so fucking boring.”
