Arcade Fire Respond to Deadmau5 Comments, Cover Chuck Berry
"Do you like rock 'n' roll music?"
Arcade Fire have responded — somewhat obliquely— to Deadmau5’s recent vitriolic tweet directed at the indie-rock standard-bearers.
No, the recent Coachella headliners didn’t quite answer what “dafuq” their problem with electronic composition might be, if they have one. But during last night’s tour stop in St. Louis, Missouri, according to Consequence of Sound, the band projected the EDM giant’s famous mouse head on an LCD screen during a performance of Reflektor’s “Normal Person.” That song begins, perhaps not coincidentally, with the line “Do you like rock and roll music?” — then again, the band also reportedly displayed former U.S. Rep. Todd “legitimate rape” Akin, so any potential message here is unclear.
Aside from that subliminal barb, the St. Louis show was also notable for continuing a string of location-specific covers that the band has been performing throughout a large portion of the Reflektor tour. Sunday night’s show featured a rollicking rendition of local son Chuck Berry’s “Roll Over Beethoven.” Check out fan video of that performance above. Unlike when Arcade Fire covered Kansas’ “Dust in the Wind” while in Kansas City, Missouri, this time their song selection perfectly matched the venue.
