It’s a good time for noise, living in the wake of such serrated 2013 albums as Kanye West’s Yeezus, Nine Inch Nails’ Hesitation Marks, and Tim Hecker’s Virgins. Various void-gazers have been emerging from the glorious black murk this year — Arca, Evian Christ, Wertheimer — and now we get a new nasty treat via Stereogum. Below you can stream “Venter” from Ben Frost, a man who contributed his production expertise not only to Hecker’s latest platter, but also to Swans’ incredible The Seer and Colin Stetson’s wonderful New History Warfare series. The Iceland-based artist has a new album, A U R O R A, coming out May 26 on Mute under his own name. It will feature contributions from drummers Thor Harris of Swans, and Greg Fox late of Liturgy. Hear them pounding below.
