Watch Beck’s Low-Key ‘Fallon’ Performances

Beck, Jimmy Fallon, 'Tonight Show,' "Waking Light," "Say Goodbye," Father John Misty, video

Good news for Morning Phase-ists (just don’t pronounce that like Thurston Moore). Beck stayed up late — or at least until Jimmy Fallon’s Tonight Show taping time — to break off a couple more mellow-gold koans for your morning/afternoon/second sleep/whatever. Above, watch Beck and his band of Los Angeles all stars, once again including Father John Misty’s Josh Tillman, perform the richly atmospheric ballad “Waking Light.” Below, catch “Say Goodbye,” which strolls with its banjo someplace close to Sufjan Stevens’ old “Jacksonville.” Both are different songs than the ensemble performed in an arty Saturday Night Live appearance. Beck, whose album actually titled Mellow Gold is now 20 years old, will likely play them all on his upcoming North American tour.
