Pawnee Hotel Foxtrot: Wilco’s Jeff Tweedy to Visit ‘Parks and Recreation’

Jeff Tweedy, 'Parks and Recreation,' Wilco

Mouse Rat may be getting some competition. Chris Pratt’s character Andy Dwyer is the one with the band on Parks and Recreation, but an upcoming episode will feature none other than Jeff Tweedy, of Wilco and Uncle Tupelo renown.

Parks and Rec executive producer Michael Schur told Entertainment Weekly that Tweedy will portray the ex-frontman of an Indiana-beloved band called Land Ho!, exclamation point and all. Andy and Amy Poehler’s protagonist Leslie Knope will try to get the band back together for a big Unity Concert between the good people of Pawnee, Indiana, and those richies over in neighboring Eagleton. It seems Tweedy will still be nursing some old wounds from the band’s demise.

The Tweedy-featuring Parks episode is set for early spring. The beloved NBC comedy has delved into musical connections before, with guest star Sam Elliott dropping Morrissey references recently; Pratt and fellow cast member Adam Scott have previously talked tunes with SPIN.

For Tweedy’s part, he’s also set to appear on the upcoming season of Portlandia. When not seeing Uncle Tupelo’s classic No Depression reissued, the Wilco frontman was recently nominated for a Grammy for his production on gospel great Mavis Staples’ One True Vine. In a speech in October, Wilco guitarist Nels Cline said he’d be recording with Tweedy and drummer Glenn Kotche and that the band wouldn’t be touring for a year.
