See the Flaming Lips and Ben Folds Messily Cover Usher’s ‘Love in This Club’

Flaming Lips Ben Folds Usher 'Love in This Club' Video Bonnaroo

The Bonnaroo Line-Up Announcement Megathon (B.L.A.M.) broadcast brought with it the exciting news that the Tennessee fest’s 2014 lineup will include Kanye West, Elton John, Frank Ocean, Skrillex, Jack White, Disclosure, and so many more. But it delivered another gift as well — the footage above of the Flaming Lips and Ben Folds covering Usher’s Vegas-sleazy, Jeezy-assisted 2008 hit, “Love in This Club.” Oh, and Sautrday Night Live‘s Taran Killam joins them as Bricen “Hey Man” Heymen, a living spoof of the “HEY!” thing that Mumford and Ed Sharpe and Arcade Fire and Lumineers foisted upon us in recent history.

In truth, the thing is a hot mess, but it’s an entertaining one. Folds never misses a chance for an ironic cover, and his voice cracks appropriately as he raps, “I’ll set you free sexually.” For his part, Lips boss Wayne Coyne cradles a weird glowing stone like a baby and does some reverbed overdubs. Hannibal Buress just stares, wide eyes and wider grin, at all of the balloons and confetti as they fall from the ceiling. Also, shout-out to Spicy Pie.
